LIC of India will provide school uniforms for tribal hostel students

Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India will provide school uniforms for students of the tribal hostel at Yelagiri Hills from January next year, according to Zonal Manager of LIC, South Zone V.K. Sharma.

At the valedictory function of the Social Security Month celebrations of LIC Pension and Group Schemes Unit, Vellore Division held at Yelagiri Hills on Tuesday, Mr. Sharma distributed educational scholarships to beneficiaries enrolled in LIC’s social security scheme Janashree Bima Yojana.

In the absence of sufficient infrastructure for the hostel, Special Tashildar-Tirupattur and Yelagiri panchayat president requested LIC to help in establishing proper building for the hostel. Mr. Sharma suggested that the district administration and tribal officer write to the Tamil Nadu government which in turn could write to the LIC for establishing infrastructure.

There were 20 types of social security schemes with subsidy and also in consolidation with the Government of India. In case of natural death of member enrolled in Janashree Bima Yojana, LIC provides Rs. 30,000, while Rs. 75,000 is given for death due to accidents, 75,000 is provided for permanent disability and Rs. 37,500 for partial disability.

LIC has enlisted 45 occupation types for the scheme. In addition, children of members of the scheme studying from Class IX to XII are entitled to Rs. 1,200 as educational scholarship every year. With the aim of creating awareness of the social security scheme in the hill area, LIC also conducted a human chain at the hills on the occasion.
